Not all patients with myeloproliferative diseases die from their disease directly. There are other far reaching effects of inflammation tied these diseases such as higher incidences of vascular disease (MIs, stroke etc). Articles highlighting this have been discussed previously in this forum. It will be interesting to see if patients feel better on Imetelstat beyond the effects of having less anemia:
