Imagine

Post by biopearl123 » Sat Nov 26, 2022 11:14 pm

Imagine yourself an MDS patient with a high transfusion burden. In the case of Dr. Platzbecker’s presentation patients required anywhere from 24 to 84 (!) transfusions during the year before treatment with Imetelstat. Now imagine your self in the roughly 30% of patients (low risk AND intermediate-1/ lenalidomide, 5del q naive ) who went from anywhere between 24 to 84 transfusions in a year to ZERO transfusions for (at least) an entire year. Consecutive weeks of TI, no gaps. In the absence of BM transplant no one has EVER presented data of this magnitude with the variable allele data (disease modification) to back it up. Now add in patients who just needed fewer transfusions (HI) on top of that. In just this small group presented in the abstract, we are talking about saving the need for hundreds of transfusions, as well as exposing patients to much less iron overload and hospital time. Now imagine this treatment available for the hundreds, maybe thousands of patients who could benefit from it…well it doesn’t actually take that much imagination. Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. Regards, bp

Don’t forget to review the bone marrow data presented in Dr. Teferri’s review article referenced in the previous post.
