There is some good discussion of this patent application on SA. Bottom line is it's nothing bad for GERN... and it was filed two years ago, it took the patent office that long to publish it. No wonder there's so much work for patent lawyers.

You're right, bio. But in two years they have not found any infringement of existing Geron patents, so granting is pretty on its way.
WilliamW: I consider Tefferi's patent as positive for various reasons: 1) it shows that Tefferi is positive about imet 2) that he may foresee to make business with it for himself/Mayo by providing licenses for his method/invention and 3) that he got the green light from Geron (see Anna's reply on SA: 'Geron has licensed rights under that patent application'). The latter means that Geron is aware of the patent and has been in dialogue with Tefferi about it. In fact it looks like another partnership outside the JnJ deal.

I did some research on Tefferi and patents. At FreshPatents.com he is mentioned as co-inventor in 26 patents. His latest patent 'Methods and materials for treating hematological malignancies' (USPTO Applicaton #: #20160287625; only 6 pages...?) seems to be the only one where he is mentioned as the sole inventor.
Furthermore I found out that he has been involved in at least two patents for a JAK2 inhibitor, both filed on 7 November 2010 (USPTO Applicaton #: #20130243853 and #20160287625). His two co-inventors are Arvind Jayan and Janice Cacace.
