How does Imetelstat compare to antibiotics that inhibit telomerase?

Post by rinconj » Wed May 26, 2021 6:08 am

Just found some articles on using some antibiotics that inhibit telomerase to treat cancers:

1.https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-021-23068-1
2.https://today.uic.edu/can-antibiotics-t ... infections
3.https://m.ebiotrade.com/newsf/2013-7/20 ... 328895.htm

I am wondering if Imetelstat holds any advantage over other telomerase inhibitors?

Excerpted from the following book:” Antibiotics oflaxacin and levofloxacin inhibit the telomerase in cell extracts. Helenalin (a natural sesquiterpene lactone), polyunsaturated fatty acids with cis-double bond, also inhibit the telomerase [ 20 ]. However, some dietary polyphenols have been suggested as telomerase inhibitors [ 38 ].”
