Dr. Platzbecker: "On target activity", "disease modification" , CR and CR+marrow CR. I think once the non medical financial community gets hold of this and recognizes the implications, we should see some serious appreciation. 68 % HI is in the words of Larry David is, "pretty pretty good". The scientists may have no idea who Larry David is, but the financial types do and they know what "pretty pretty good" means. The potential absolute number of blood transfusion avoidable with the attendant avoidance of iron overload and associated complication (hemochromatosis, AML, chelation therapy) are clear. If anyone did an analysis that included trips to the hospital, time for transfusion, materials for transfusion, costs associated with obtaining and screening donors, preparation and storage of blood, risk of transmission of blood borne disease not picked up with pre transfusion labs--the list goes on, the saving will be extraordinary. Some analyst (or academician) just has to run the numbers and make and make them public and the value of this drug will begin to be appreciated. Not to mention improvement in patient symptoms and QOL and (I am betting--less AML) bp
