FTSV acquisition by GILD

Clearly, big pharma is interested in the MDS/AML market, they see it as large and effective therapy as attainable.

JNJ is invested in ARGX and Constellation, now GILD has bought out FSTV.

Any thoughts as to why no pharma has shown interest in Geron?

Re: Perspective on the MF field

i think they bailed due to the italian paper on MOS - when it came out there was no chance to refute it or prove it and thus they didn't feel comfortable in committing up to a billion dollars to continue - that killed the deal - the FDA must think there is something here to grant fast track after l...

Perspective on the MF field

MF is a lot smaller market... but there are still many current trials, some of them even combo trials.

Review paper on low-risk MDS, brief mention of imetelstat

A really severe condemnation of the whole plarma/patent/FDA system... no new drug for 13 years:

new Geron patent on 6-thio-dG and other Guanine variants

Geron received a patent on Guanine analogs as telomerase length affectors (e.g., 6-thio-dG). More confirmation that Dr. Shay is right and that 6-thio-dG is the future... does anyone here know how this affects the MAIA IP?

Re: Hat tip to hay flick YMB

No, you were right, biopearl. Geron isn't doing genetic screening in the trials... and so far they've recruited only half the patients they need for the MDS trial, even just taking whatever victims Paraxel can find.

This is just a hope for the future. Maybe in a Phase 3 design for MF?

Targeting imet on genetic subtypes: hope for effectiveness?

Just as Gleevec got its reputation because it is only used on genetic subtypes where it has a better chance, Imetelstat might be developed into an effective therapy if susceptible subtypes are found. (Caffeine is actually VERY effective on cancers with a certain DNA-repair defect...) Hayflick on the...

Re: Imet Angels - A grassroots movement

Shears is obviously right... Rizo had already left for CELG, she knew that the imetelstat project was going to be dropped.

Might as well ask why the guy that GERN hired from ATNM came... they're just refugees.

Notice that JNJ kept Gryzanov... he's still valuable.

Janssen was clearly concerned with MDS from the beginning: https://ir.geron.com/investors/press-releases/press-release-details/2014/Geron-Announces-Global-Strategic-Collaboration-with-Janssen--to-Develop-and-Commercialize-Imetelstat/default.aspx You can't un-GERNobyl a reactor, you have to build a b...

Re: AGIO <--> GERN ....CoRelation?

The issue isn't number of patients, it's statistical power. If you get a high percentage of CRs in your 25 patients, that's a lot better than unclear results on a larger number.

That's how effective drugs get conditional approval straight out of Phase 1 and 2.

Any lab can make imetelstat with their in-house oligo synthesizer, and then do the chemical step to add the lipid tail. Geron can't stop people from researching imetelstat.

hunting, have you checked out the MAIA startup? They're working on 6-thio-dG, the chemical favored by Dr. Shay in some 2015-2016 papers.

Re: So many blind spots right out in the open…

Dr. Rizo didn't "come to Geron". She left Janssen, presumably because she knew the imet project was shutting down, and went to CELG. Then Geron was forced to hire her as it had no one qualified to run a trial. There is nothing negative about that, but nothing positive either. She simply didn't have ...
